PDF guide: organize pages, fill forms and edit metadata

Choose PDF tools for merging, splitting, page order, watermarks and forms. Understand the difference between page appearance, editable fields and metadata.

Choose an operation for your task

Choose PDF tools for merging, splitting, page order, watermarks and forms. Understand the difference between page appearance, editable fields and metadata.

Which operation fits?
Your taskWhere to start
Reorganize pagesMerge, split or reorder a copy, then check page boundaries
Fill a formInspect field names before filling; flatten only when editing is finished
Hide sensitive contentUse a dedicated redaction workflow; cropping and metadata removal are insufficient

Work in order and retain the original

Inspect a representative PDF before processing the full document. Confirm encryption, page count and whether text is selectable. For forms, inspect field names and supported types first, fill a copy, and only flatten after checking the visible values. Keep the editable source when the recipient may need further revisions.

Representative workflow and expected result
Inspect fields → fill exact names → reopen → flatten a copy → verify pages and values.

Separate processing success from acceptance

Open the saved output in a second viewer. Verify page order, clipped edges, overlays and field values. Editing may invalidate signatures; OCR, general redaction and XFA are outside these tools.

Before you finish

Expand a tool below for its steps, options and limits. Choose the tools needed for your task; you do not need to use every one.

  • Open the saved output in a second viewer. Verify page order, clipped edges, overlays and field values. Editing may invalidate signatures; OCR, general redaction and XFA are outside these tools.
  • Reopen the download and compare it with the example and the meaning of the input.
  • When an input exceeds the stated boundaries, retain it and split the task or use a suitable processor; renaming an extension does not make it compatible.

Merge PDFPut your PDFs together, in your order.

Combine two or more PDFs in the numbered file-list order. Page text and vectors stay as PDF content. Interactive forms and signed documents are rejected; document bookmarks and attachments are not copied.

Steps

  1. Choose at least two local .pdf files. Use the arrows to set their output order.
  2. Select “Merge PDFs”; the files are processed in this browser.
  3. Review each source page range and preview the boundaries, then download and reopen merged.pdf.

Capabilities and limits

  • Choose 2–20 unencrypted PDFs, up to 30 MiB per file, 80 MiB total and 300 output pages. Keep the originals.
Open Merge PDF →
Split PDFKeep the pages you need.

Split one PDF into a file for each comma-separated page or range, or export every page separately. Multiple results include a ZIP. The source stays in the browser; signed PDFs and interactive forms are rejected.

Steps

Images to PDFA set of images. One tidy document.

Turn selected images into one PDF in the numbered queue order, one white-backed image per page. Choose A4, Letter or a page fitted to each image, then inspect the result. Files are decoded and re-encoded, so original image bytes and metadata are not retained.

Steps

  1. Choose local .png, .jpg, .jpeg or .webp files; sort numbered filenames or use the arrows to set PDF page order.
  2. Choose A4 or Letter and orientation, or fit each image to its own page. Set the margin and confirm the paper choices.
  3. Create the PDF, review each source-to-page mapping and preview, then download and reopen images.pdf.

Capabilities and limits

  • Page numbers are drawn over existing content, including on rotated pages; content is not moved to make room.
  • PDFs stay in your browser. The limit is 30 MiB and 300 pages.
Open Add PDF page numbers →
Crop PDF marginsRemove visible white margins from each PDF page, or crop exact edges.

Make scanned pages easier to read by detecting white margins page by page. Or enter exact crop amounts for the visible edges. Compare the original and result before downloading.

Steps

  1. Choose a local PDF. Automatic margin detection is selected by default.
  2. Keep a safety margin around the detected content, or switch to exact edge values.
  3. Crop the PDF, compare original and result page by page, then download.

Available options

Capabilities and limits

  • Automatic detection uses a rendered page image and may mistake faint marks or uneven scan backgrounds for blank space. Review every page before using the result.
  • Cropping only hides content outside the visible area; it does not redact or remove it. Files stay in the browser, up to 30 MiB and 300 pages.
Open Crop PDF margins →
Watermark PDFCenter a diagonal text watermark on every PDF page and inspect the actual output page by page.

Add one diagonal label to every page of a local PDF. The text is centered within each visible page and reduced when needed to avoid clipping, including on landscape and rotated pages.

Steps

  1. Choose one local PDF, then enter a short ASCII watermark label in the visible controls.
  2. Set the requested font size and opacity; generate the PDF. The label is centered and can shrink on narrower pages.
  3. Use the output page selector to inspect every page, then download the watermarked PDF.

Available options

Watermark text, printable ASCII

0.2

Capabilities and limits

  • Printable ASCII characters only, 1–80 characters. Requested size 6–150 pt (whole points) and opacity 0.05–1 (up to two decimals). Long labels shrink to fit; text that cannot fit at 6 pt is rejected.
  • One unencrypted PDF up to 30 MiB and 300 pages. A watermark can be edited or removed and does not protect the document; changing a signed PDF may invalidate its signature.
  • The PDF is processed locally in this browser. Review every output page before downloading.
Open Watermark PDF →
PDF metadata workspaceInspect and edit PDF metadata, resolve XMP conflicts, or clear supported fields locally.

Check the existing title, author, subject and keywords before editing. If the PDF also has document XMP, remove that conflicting entry before writing new Info fields so a reader does not keep showing the old values. You can also clear supported Info and XMP entries.

Steps

  1. Choose a local PDF and inspect its current Info fields and XMP status.
  2. Edit fields directly when document XMP is absent, choose Replace to remove document XMP before editing, or choose Clear to remove supported Info and XMP entries.
  3. Process the PDF, inspect the metadata read from the generated file, and download it.

Available options

Capabilities and limits

  • One unencrypted PDF, ≤30 MiB and 300 pages. Changes may invalidate signatures; keep the original.
  • Files and input are processed in this browser. No account needed.
  • Replace removes the entire document XMP entry, including properties not shown here. Clear removes standard Info and document/page XMP entries. Neither removes visible text, attachments, annotations or every embedded metadata item; this is not redaction.

Flatten PDF form fieldsBake supported AcroForm appearances into page content so ordinary form controls are no longer editable.

Bake supported AcroForm appearances into page content so ordinary form controls are no longer editable. Select a PDF with AcroForm fields and keep an editable original.

Steps

  1. Select a PDF with AcroForm fields and keep an editable original.
  2. Flatten field appearances into page content and download the result.
  3. Check visible text, checkboxes, page count and removed form controls in a reader. Flattening is not redaction, encryption or signature validation.

Capabilities and limits

  • One unencrypted PDF, up to 30 MiB and 300 pages. XFA and detected digital signatures are rejected. Flattening does not remove comments, attachments or hidden data.
  • Files stay in the browser. Keep the editable original and inspect every page of the output. PDFs with no AcroForm fields produce no form changes.
Open Flatten PDF form fields →
PDF form inspection and fillingList AcroForm field names, types and options, then fill supported fields using an explicit JSON mapping.

Inspect one PDF to see its AcroForm field names, types and choices. Then switch to fill mode and map supported field names to JSON values.

Steps

  1. Upload the PDF and inspect its exact field names, types and choices.
  2. Switch to fill mode and map exact field names to JSON values: strings for text and single choices, booleans for checkboxes.
  3. Download and reopen the saved form to verify field values and visible appearances. For a non-editable copy, use the separate flattening tool afterward.

Available options

Task
Inspect fields · Fill from JSON

Inspect fields first to get exact names and options. Then select filling and provide a JSON mapping in the input.

Capabilities and limits

  • One unencrypted PDF up to 30 MiB and 300 pages. Fill mode supports writable text, checkboxes and single selections; printable ASCII text and line breaks only in multiline fields. XFA is unsupported, and detected signatures are rejected for filling.
  • Inspection shows existing values except password fields, which are masked. The downloadable JSON may contain private data. Files stay in the browser; keep the original and verify saved appearances in a PDF reader.
Open PDF form inspection and filling →
PDF page overlayOverlay visible page artwork from a one-page PDF or a matching page set onto a base PDF.

Add letterhead, a transparent design, or page-matched marks to a base PDF. Add the base PDF first and the overlay PDF second; use the queue arrows to swap them. One overlay page repeats across every base page, while a matching page set maps page by page.

Steps

  1. Add the base PDF, then the overlay PDF; confirm their roles in the file queue.
  2. Choose opacity from 0 (invisible) to 1 (opaque). The overlay fits and centers within the visible crop area of each base page.
  3. Compare the base and output page by page; download and reopen the PDF before sharing.

Available options

Overlay opacity (0–1)
1

Capabilities and limits

  • Choose exactly two unencrypted PDFs, each up to 30 MiB and 300 pages. The overlay must have one page or the same page count as the base. The opacity range is 0–1; an opaque overlay can hide base content.
  • Only visible PDF page artwork is overlaid. Annotations, editable form widgets and digital signatures in the overlay are not copied. Signed base PDFs and rotated pages are rejected. Files stay in the browser; keep the originals.
