Image compression, resizing and conversion: a practical guide
Choose tools for JPG, PNG and WebP conversion, cropping, compression and stitching. Follow the right order and check dimensions, transparency and file size.
Choose an operation for your task
Choose tools for JPG, PNG and WebP conversion, cropping, compression and stitching. Follow the right order and check dimensions, transparency and file size.
| Your task | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Reduce a website photo’s size | Resize before comparing JPEG or WebP quality |
| Keep a transparent logo | Keep PNG or WebP transparency; avoid JPEG backgrounds unless intended |
| Review a batch of images | Create a 2–20 image PNG contact sheet; inspect shortened captions and keep originals for detail |
Work in order and retain the original
Crop first, then resize and finally encode. Compare the original and output at the actual display size, including thin lines, gradients and small text. Repeated JPEG saves accumulate artifacts. A watermarked proof, a contact sheet and a delivery image serve different jobs, even when they originate from the same source.
Transparent logo → PNG/WebP; photograph → compare JPEG/WebP; review set → contact sheet.Separate processing success from acceptance
Check pixel dimensions, orientation, alpha edges and actual bytes. Metadata removal is limited to supported fields and is not a complete privacy guarantee.
Grayscale image makes one color image look gray by setting equal RGB channel values in a new PNG; use the before/after slider to inspect detail and transparent edges. This is not a single-channel Gray PNG, 1-bit black-and-white threshold or print color profile.
Watermark image adds custom text inside the lower-right edge of one image. Compare the output at full size for contrast and covered details; long text may shrink or be rejected. It is a visible attribution or proof label, not a barrier to cropping or copying.
Image border and padding puts the same number of opaque colored pixels outside all four sides of one image without cropping; transparent source pixels inside the picture stay transparent. Check the new dimensions and compare the source and output separately. Equal margins change the full canvas aspect ratio for non-square images; use a fixed-ratio canvas workflow when a destination requires 4:5 or another exact shape.
Stitch images joins two or more screenshots in the numbered order, vertically or horizontally, without rescaling them. Zero gap can join edges directly, but overlapping scroll captures still need manual cropping first. Check predicted output dimensions, background-filled transparent areas and actual-pixel seams before sharing.
Before you finish
Expand a tool below for its steps, options and limits. Choose the tools needed for your task; you do not need to use every one.
- Check pixel dimensions, orientation, alpha edges and actual bytes. Metadata removal is limited to supported fields and is not a complete privacy guarantee.
- Reopen the download and compare it with the example and the meaning of the input.
- When an input exceeds the stated boundaries, retain it and split the task or use a suitable processor; renaming an extension does not make it compatible.

WebP to JPGTurn WebP into an easy-to-share JPG.
Convert saved, static WebP images to JPG. Choose a background for transparent areas; animated WebP is rejected. This creates new JPEG pixels, not a renamed WebP file.
Steps
- Choose up to 20 saved .webp files. The originals stay on your device.
- Set JPEG quality and a background color for transparent pixels, then choose “Convert to JPG”.
- Inspect the new images. Download one JPG or the ZIP when converting several files.
Available options
- Quality (0.1–1)
- 0.9
- Background color
- #ffffff
Capabilities and limits
- Static WebP only: up to 20 files, 20 MiB and 16 million pixels per image, 80 MiB per batch. Animated WebP is not supported.
PNG to JPGChoose a background for transparent areas and save as JPG.
Convert PNG to JPEG with a chosen background for transparency. JPEG uses lossy compression, so inspect details and file size before replacing an original.
Steps
- Choose up to 20 saved .png files. The originals stay on your device.
- Set JPEG quality and a background color for transparent pixels, then choose “Convert to JPG”.
- Inspect the new images. Download one JPG or the ZIP when converting several files.
Available options
- Quality (0.1–1)
- 0.9
- Background color
- #ffffff
Capabilities and limits
- Static PNG only: up to 20 files, 20 MiB and 16 million pixels per image, 80 MiB per batch. Animated PNG is not supported.
Batch JPG to PNGConvert one or many JPGs to real PNG files for a PNG-only workflow.
Convert one or many JPEGs into PNG files in your browser. This is useful when a workflow requires PNG or when you want to avoid another lossy JPG save. It does not restore lost JPEG detail, add transparency or guarantee a smaller file.
Steps
- Choose one or more local .jpg or .jpeg files.
- Select “Convert to PNG”. Each file keeps its dimensions and displayed orientation.
- Review each file’s JPG and PNG size, then download individual PNGs or the batch ZIP.
Capabilities and limits
- Static JPEG only; up to 20 files, 20 MiB and 16 million pixels per image, 80 MiB per batch. Animated images and other formats are not accepted.
Image to WebPConvert a JPG or PNG image to WebP.
Convert static JPEG or PNG images into real WebP files. PNG transparency is retained where supported; quality is a lossy encoder setting, not a promised size target.
Steps
- Choose up to 20 saved PNG or JPG files. The originals stay on your device.
- Set WebP quality, then choose “Convert to WebP”.
- Check transparency, detail and file size. Download one WebP or the ZIP when converting several files.
Available options
- Quality (0.1–1)
- 0.85
Capabilities and limits
- Static JPEG or PNG only: up to 20 files, 20 MiB and 16 million pixels per image, 80 MiB per batch. Animated PNG is not supported.
Resize imagesGet the dimensions right for wherever it’s going.
Resize static JPEG, PNG or WebP images by pixel width or height. Use the standard workspace for a small batch or the large batch mode for a photo folder. Output keeps each input format.
Steps
- Choose up to 20 files in standard mode, or select a photo folder in large batch mode. The originals stay on your device.
- Enter a width or height in pixels. With aspect ratio locked, width takes priority when both are filled; unlock it to set both dimensions exactly. Turn on enlarging only if needed.
- Check dimensions, appearance and file size. Standard mode offers individual images or a ZIP; large batch mode saves one ZIP with a manifest for cancellation and resuming.
Available options
- Width (pixels; blank keeps input)
- Enter as needed
With aspect ratio locked, a supplied width takes priority. Leave it blank to resize by height only.
- Height (pixels; blank keeps input)
- Enter as needed
- Keep aspect ratio
- On by default
- Allow enlarging
- Off by default
Capabilities and limits
- Standard mode: up to 20 files, 20 MiB each and 80 MiB per batch. Large batch mode: up to 600 files, 40 MiB each and 3 GiB total, written as a ZIP under 4 GiB. Both modes limit each input and output to 16 million pixels. Static JPEG, PNG and WebP only.
Compress imagesMake images lighter for sharing and uploading.
Re-encode static JPEG, PNG or WebP images as JPEG or WebP at your chosen quality. Compare actual byte counts and appearance: the setting does not guarantee a target file size, and an already optimized image can become larger.
Steps
- Choose up to 20 saved JPEG, PNG or WebP files. The originals stay on your device.
- Choose JPEG or WebP and set quality. For JPEG output from a transparent source, choose the background color; WebP can retain transparency.
- Compare each result with the source, including detail, transparency and actual bytes. Download one image or the ZIP for several files.
Available options
- Output format
- JPEG · WebP
- Quality (0.1–1)
- 0.8
Higher values usually retain more detail and may increase size. Try the default, then compare detail and file size.
- Background color
- #ffffff
Capabilities and limits
- Static JPEG, PNG or WebP only: up to 20 files, 20 MiB and 16 million pixels per image, 80 MiB per batch. Animated images and SVG are not supported.
Crop imagesKeep the part that matters.
Crop one static JPEG, PNG or WebP image with an exact pixel rectangle. You can preview and drag a selection, choose a free, square or 16:9 ratio, or enter the left, top, width and height directly. Coordinates outside the image are rejected.
Steps
- Choose one saved JPEG, PNG or WebP image. The original stays on your device.
- Enter the left, top, crop width and height in pixels, or prepare the preview and drag a region. Choose free, 1:1 or 16:9 proportion if needed.
- Check the selected region and actual output dimensions, then download the cropped image.
Available options
- Left (pixels)
- 0
- Top (pixels)
- 0
- Crop width (blank to right edge)
- Enter as needed
- Crop height (blank to bottom edge)
- Enter as needed
Capabilities and limits
- One static JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels. Animated images and SVG are not supported.
Rotate & flip imageRotate your image or flip it horizontally or vertically.
Apply the same chosen operation to static JPEG, PNG or WebP files: first flip on the source axes, then rotate clockwise in 90-degree steps. Existing EXIF orientation is applied before the selected operation; the originals stay unchanged.
Steps
- Choose up to 20 saved JPEG, PNG or WebP files in the order you want. The originals stay on your device.
- Choose 0°, 90°, 180° or 270° clockwise rotation and optional horizontal or vertical flips. The same settings apply to every selected file.
- Check the result orientation and dimensions, then download one image or the ZIP for several files.
Available options
- Clockwise rotation
- 0° · 90° · 180° · 270°
- Flip horizontally before rotation
- Off by default
- Flip vertically before rotation
- Off by default
Capabilities and limits
- Static JPEG, PNG or WebP only: up to 20 files, 20 MiB and 16 million pixels per image, 80 MiB per batch. No animation or SVG.
Image to Base64Turn an image into a Base64 string you can copy.
Encode the original bytes of one validated static JPEG, PNG or WebP image as plain Base64 or a data URL using its detected MIME type. The image is not resized or re-encoded; Base64 text is typically about one-third larger than the binary file.
Steps
- Choose one saved JPEG, PNG or WebP image. The original stays on your device.
- Choose a full data URL for an HTML/CSS image source, or Base64 only when another system supplies the MIME prefix. Select “Generate Base64”.
- Preview the start of the text, then copy or download the complete result. Check the receiving system’s text-size limit before embedding a large image.
Available options
- Output
- Data URL · Base64 only
Capabilities and limits
- One static JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels. Animated images and SVG are not supported. Large encoded text can be cumbersome to paste or embed.
Extract image colorsPick out the main colors in an image.
Estimate dominant colors from up to 16,384 sampled pixels using weighted RGB clustering. Review color swatches, approximate sample shares and copyable HEX values. Small bright accents may be missed.
Steps
- Choose one saved static JPEG, PNG or WebP image. The original stays on your device.
- Choose 2–12 colors and whether to ignore pixels with alpha below 128. Select “Extract colors”.
- Review swatches and approximate shares, then copy the HEX list or download palette.txt.
Available options
- Number of colors
- 6
- Ignore transparent pixels
- On by default
Capabilities and limits
- Static JPEG, PNG or WebP only; up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels for one image. No animation or SVG.
Remove image metadataRemove supported photo metadata while preserving image data when orientation allows.
Remove EXIF, XMP, comments and other non-color metadata from local images. The original encoded image data is kept when orientation is already normal. Images that rely on EXIF rotation are re-encoded to stay upright, unless you choose to reject them instead.
Steps
- Choose one or more local JPEG, PNG or WebP images. Files stay in this browser.
- For a strict no-recompression workflow, select Never re-encode. Rotated JPEGs will be rejected; otherwise they are re-encoded to stay upright.
- Select “Remove metadata”. The tool preserves encoded image data unless the selected handling of EXIF rotation requires re-encoding.
- Review the per-file method and remaining color information, then download the cleaned copies.
Available options
- Never re-encode image data
- Off by default
Reject the batch if any selected image needs EXIF rotation to stay upright. No output will be produced in that case.
Capabilities and limits
- Static JPEG, PNG or WebP only; up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels per image, 80 MiB per batch. No animation or SVG.
- ICC and other color information is retained when image data is preserved, so colors remain interpretable. These profiles may still contain descriptive data; this is not a full anonymization guarantee.
- For an EXIF-rotated JPEG, this tool re-encodes to keep the picture upright after removing EXIF. Choose Never re-encode to reject such files and keep a strict no-recompression workflow.
Favicon generatorMake a set of website icons from one image.
From one saved image, build an ICO containing 16, 32 and 48 pixel PNG frames, plus separate 16, 32, 180, 192 and 512 pixel PNG icons. Non-square artwork is centered without stretching.
Steps
- Choose one saved static JPEG, PNG or WebP image. The original stays on your device.
- Choose a transparent background or a #RRGGBB color, then select “Generate icons”.
- Inspect the larger PNG preview and download favicon.zip, the ICO, or individual PNG sizes. Reopen the files in an image viewer before using them on a site.
Available options
- Background (#RRGGBB or transparent)
- transparent
Capabilities and limits
- Static JPEG, PNG or WebP only; up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels for one image. No animation or SVG.
Grayscale imageMake a grayscale-looking PNG from one color image and compare it with the original.
Convert one color image to a PNG whose visible pixels have equal red, green and blue values. Compare it with the original before saving; different hues may become the same gray.
Steps
- Choose one static PNG, JPG or WebP image.
- Convert it, then use the before/after slider to inspect gray tones and transparent edges.
- Download the PNG after checking that important colored areas remain distinct in gray.
Capabilities and limits
- One static PNG, JPEG or WebP image, up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels. Output is PNG; transparent pixels retain their alpha.
- This is a weighted RGB pixel conversion, not 1-bit black and white, a single-channel grayscale file or a CMYK/print profile. Source metadata is not retained.
- Files and input are processed in this browser. No account needed.
Watermark imageAdd a custom text label inside the lower-right edge of one image and compare the exported PNG.
Add your name, handle or proof label to one image. Set the text, requested font size, color and opacity, then compare the exported PNG with the source. The label sits inside the lower-right edge; check contrast and whether it covers important detail.
Steps
- Choose a static image.
- Enter the text and adjust the visible font-size, color and opacity controls.
- Select “Add image watermark”, inspect the result, then save the output you need.
Available options
- Watermark
- Neatbo
- Font size, px
- 32
- Opacity, 0.05–1
- 0.65
- Color
- #ffffff
Capabilities and limits
- One static PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels. Output is PNG; source metadata is not retained.
- Text is reduced to fit inside the image. If it cannot fit at 8 px, use shorter text or a larger image. This visible mark can be cropped or edited away; it does not prevent copying.
- Custom text only. No automatic date or EXIF text, uploaded logo, batch processing, or copyright enforcement.
- Files and input are processed in this browser. No account needed.
Image border and paddingAdd an equal-width solid outer border to one image without cropping its picture.
Add an equal-width solid outer border to one image without cropping its picture. Choose 1–200 px per side and a color, check the new canvas dimensions, then compare the complete source and output before downloading the PNG.
Steps
- Choose a static image.
- Choose a 1–200 px outer border width and its color in the visible controls; check the new canvas dimensions.
- Select “Add border and padding”, inspect the result, then save the output you need.
Available options
- Padding, px
- 16
- Border color
- #ffffff
Capabilities and limits
- One static PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels; the bordered output must also fit within 16 million pixels. Output is PNG without source metadata.
- Equal opaque pixels are added outside all four sides. Transparent pixels inside a PNG/WebP picture remain transparent. The picture is not cropped, but the full canvas aspect ratio changes for a non-square source. No fixed 4:5 or 12:7 target, automatic fit, batch processing, or print sizing.
- Files and input are processed in this browser. No account needed.
Stitch imagesArrange two or more images in one vertical or horizontal PNG without resizing them.
Combine screenshots or photos into one PNG without resizing the source images. Arrange the numbered file order, choose vertical or horizontal placement, set the gap and background, then inspect the full output and its seams before saving.
Steps
- Choose at least two static images and arrange the numbered file list with the up/down buttons.
- Choose vertical or horizontal placement, a 0–200 px gap and background color; check the predicted canvas dimensions.
- Select “Stitch images”, inspect the result, then save the output you need.
Available options
- Direction
- vertical · horizontal
- Gap, px
- 16
- Background
- #ffffff
Capabilities and limits
- Choose 2–20 static PNG, JPEG or WebP images, each at most 20 MiB and 80 MiB total. Source images together and the output canvas must each fit within 16 million pixels; output width and height must each be at most 16,384 px.
- 0–200 px whole-number gap. The selected solid background fills gaps, unequal-size side areas and transparent source pixels. Images are centered across the other axis; no cropping, rescaling, overlap removal or automatic alignment. Output is PNG without source metadata.
- Files and input are processed in this browser. No account needed.
Image contact sheetCreate a PNG grid of 2–20 image thumbnails with optional numbered filenames.
Make one review sheet from selected photos or design assets. Set the file order, columns, thumbnail box size, spacing, background and filename captions; check the predicted canvas and inspect the downloaded sheet at actual pixels.
Steps
- Choose at least two static images and arrange their numbered queue in review order.
- Set columns, box size, gap, background and optional numbered filenames; check the output canvas dimensions.
- Create the contact sheet, inspect thumbnail detail and captions at actual pixels, then save the PNG.
Available options
- Columns
- 3
- Thumbnail size, px
- 240
- Gap, px
- 16
- Background
- #ffffff
- Show filenames
- On by default
Capabilities and limits
- Choose 2–20 static PNG, JPEG or WebP images, each at most 20 MiB and 80 MiB total. Source images together and the output canvas must each fit within 16 million pixels; output width and height must each be at most 16,384 px.
- Use 1–10 requested columns, a 32–1000 px square thumbnail box and a 0–200 px whole-number gap. Extra requested columns are omitted. Images fit without cropping; transparent pixels show the selected opaque background.
- Optional numbered filename captions may be shortened to fit their thumbnail boxes; the full names remain in the result list. Output is one PNG without source metadata, not a print-sized or multipage PDF. All processing remains in this browser.
