Before you start
Convert one color image to a PNG whose visible pixels have equal red, green and blue values. Compare it with the original before saving; different hues may become the same gray.
How to use this tool
- Choose one static PNG, JPG or WebP image.
- Convert it, then use the before/after slider to inspect gray tones and transparent edges.
- Download the PNG after checking that important colored areas remain distinct in gray.
Supported inputs and limits
One static PNG, JPEG or WebP image, up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels. Output is PNG; transparent pixels retain their alpha.
This is a weighted RGB pixel conversion, not 1-bit black and white, a single-channel grayscale file or a CMYK/print profile. Source metadata is not retained.
Files and input are processed in this browser. No account needed.

When something does not work
Use one static PNG, JPEG or WebP image within 20 MiB and 16 million pixels. For print-specific Gray/CMYK files or thresholded black and white, use a color-managed editor.
Frequently asked questions
How can I check the result from Grayscale image?
Compare the source and generated PNG with the slider. Check gray tones, transparency and whether previously different colors remain distinct.
What should I check before using the result?
This changes visible RGB pixels and exports PNG, preserving alpha. It does not produce 1-bit monochrome, a single-channel Gray PNG or a printer-specific profile. One image may be up to 20 MiB and 16 million pixels.
Is my input sent to a server?
No. Tool input is processed in your browser, not sent to a server. Temporary workspaces stay in the same tab and are cleared by a refresh or tab closure. Save the results you need.
