Before you start

Count pasted text by Unicode code points, UTF-16 units, grapheme clusters, Latin-letter English words, Han characters, lines, paragraphs and UTF-8 bytes. These measures differ for emoji and mixed-language text; no publisher-specific word count is implied.

How to use this tool

  1. Paste content into “Text”, or load the example to try it.
  2. Check your input, then select “Count text”.
  3. Read the labeled counts and copy a value or the full JSON summary. Compare the required counting rule with your destination's own limit.

Supported inputs and limits

Pasted text is limited to 1 MiB; review the result before using it.

When something does not work

Paste at most 1 MiB of text. If you need the count accepted by a publisher or document editor, follow that system's counting rules and check the full document there; this tool only counts pasted text.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. Files and tool input are processed in your browser. Moving around the site can keep a temporary workspace in the same tab. Refreshing or closing the tab clears it, so download results you want to keep.

What should I check in this result?

English words count Latin-letter runs; Han characters are separate. Emoji can be several code points but one visible grapheme. A publisher or word processor may count a manuscript differently, especially tables, notes and other document content.
