Tool input and files are processed in this browser without being uploaded.
Before you start
Inspect the technical fields stored in a local video without uploading it: duration, encoded dimensions, container, video and audio codecs, frame rate, bit rate and file size where reported.
How to use this tool
- Choose a local video. Its working bytes stay in your browser.
- Select Read video information and review the duration, resolution and available track details.
- Copy the readable summary or download the JSON report for your records.
Supported inputs and limits
One local video up to 50 MiB and 128 video/audio tracks in total. The selected technical fields for every supported video and audio track are included in the complete JSON; fields are not limited to the first eight tracks. The JSON is limited to 8 MiB; a file exceeding either report limit is rejected as a whole.
Common MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and AVI containers can be inspected. Unsupported or missing measurements are shown as unknown; subtitle and menu tracks are not inventoried. This report does not test playback.
Worked example
Example input
av.webm
Example options
{}Example output
WebM · 6.008 s · 320 × 180 px · VP8 video at 10 fps · Opus audio. Download the technical JSON report if needed.
When something does not work
If no video track is found, check that the file is complete and try another common video container. Unknown fields stay blank; this tool does not repair files or test playback.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?
No. Files and tool input are processed in your browser. Moving around the site can keep a temporary workspace in the same tab. Refreshing or closing the tab clears it, so download results you want to keep.
Why are some fields missing?
The report only displays fields the local media parser could read. A container may omit frame rate or track bit rate, and an incomplete file may not expose its duration. Missing values stay unreported rather than being estimated.
Does this mean the video will play in my browser?
No. Reading metadata does not decode frames or verify playback. Device, browser and editor support depends on the actual container and codecs.
