    WAV output settings

    Leave sample rate blank to keep the input rate. Mono averages input channels; stereo duplicates mono input. Changing rate or converting MP3 to WAV cannot restore lost audio quality.

    Preparing the tool…

    Before you start

    Make a 16-bit PCM WAV from a supported MP3 or WAV file. Keep the source rate and channels, or choose output settings for the app that needs the file. Listen before downloading.

    How to use this tool

    1. Choose one local .wav or .mp3 file.
    2. Keep the source sample rate and channels, or set the output rate and mono/stereo option needed by your destination app.
    3. Convert, check the output details and listen to the WAV, then download the file.

    Supported inputs and limits

    One WAV or MP3 file up to 30 MiB; decoded float samples up to 80 MiB. Supported input is PCM/IEEE WAV or frame-valid MP3 the browser can decode. Output is 16-bit PCM WAV at 8–192 kHz, with up to 8 input channels.

    MP3 quality already lost to compression cannot be recovered by exporting WAV. A changed sample rate may alter sound; preview the output.

    Worked example

    Example input

    tone.wav
    Example options
    {
      "sampleRate": 24000
    }

    Example output

    tone-converted.wav — 2 seconds, 24,000 Hz, mono, 16-bit PCM

    When something does not work

    If conversion fails, confirm the file is a supported WAV or intact MP3 within the size limits. Check the output rate, channels, duration and any clipping warning; a failed run clears the previous result.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does converting MP3 to WAV improve its quality?

    No. WAV stores the decoded MP3 audio as uncompressed PCM but cannot restore details the MP3 encoder discarded. The file will usually be larger; convert for format compatibility, not to improve the recording.

    Why might an MP3 fail even though it plays elsewhere?

    This tool validates MP3 frames before using your browser's decoder. Damaged files, unsupported frame layouts and browser codec differences can cause failure. It does not repair MP3 files or convert other audio codecs.
