Your input

Inputs are kept temporarily in this tab when switching tools. Refreshing or closing clears them; large results may need to be regenerated.

Rounding options

This controls display rounding, not measurement accuracy. Small nonzero results use scientific notation instead of showing zero.

Preparing the tool…

Before you start

Choose a measurement type, enter a value, then select the units you have and need. Compatible units stay together; temperature conversions account for the different scale origins. Volume includes metric units and U.S. customary liquid units.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose Length, Area, Mass, Volume or Temperature and enter the value to convert.
  2. Select the starting and target units, or use Swap units to reverse them.
  3. Select Convert units. Check the displayed units with the result, then copy the number if needed.

Supported inputs and limits

Supports the listed length, area, mass, volume and temperature units. Volume cups, fluid ounces, pints, quarts and gallons are U.S. customary liquid measures; temperatures below absolute zero are rejected.

Results are calculated in your browser; refresh clears unsaved work.

Worked example

Example input

0
Example options
Type: Temperature
From: Celsius (°C)
To: Fahrenheit (°F)

Example output

32 °F

When something does not work

If conversion fails, enter a finite number within the supported range and check that a temperature is not below absolute zero. The previous result is marked as outdated after changes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert between different measurement types?

No. Select a type first; the unit lists then show only compatible choices. For example, feet can convert to metres, but not to kilograms.

Why can a very small answer use scientific notation?

A small nonzero conversion may round to zero at the chosen decimal places. The converter shows scientific notation in that case so the value is not mistaken for zero.

Which foot definition is used?

Foot, mile, square foot and acre use the international foot (exactly 0.3048 metre), not the legacy U.S. survey foot.

Which cup and quart does the volume converter use?

It uses U.S. customary liquid units: 1 U.S. cup is 8 U.S. fluid ounces (about 236.588 mL), and 1 U.S. liquid quart is 4 U.S. cups. These are not Imperial or U.S. dry units; a fluid ounce is a volume, not a weight ounce.
