Check scope before interpreting developer reports
A matching path, selected version, mapped location or module name depends on the supplied context. Check the assumptions that determine the result.
A path decision needs its parent rules
A final negation can look convincing while an earlier directory exclusion prevents traversal. Keep both the winning rule and the blocking parent in a review report. A supplied-path checker answers the policy question; confirming tracked state or file existence requires the actual repository.
| Check | Keep with the report |
|---|---|
| Gitignore | Root scope, path type and blocking parent |
| SemVer | Exact range, prerelease option and original order |
| Source map | Generated filename and input column basis |
| WASM | Browser engine and static descriptor scope |
A selected version needs its range policy
Two build variants can have the same precedence, and a prerelease can sit numerically inside a range yet be excluded by npm policy. Record the exact range and prerelease option with the maximum rather than turning a supplied-list result into a claim about registry installation.
A stack location needs its coordinate convention
An off-by-one column or a map for another generated file can point to the wrong expression. Preserve unmapped frames and explicit input column numbering. A source path in a map establishes a location reference; embedded source recovery separately asks whether actual text was captured.
An import name needs a host contract
Static import/export descriptors show which names a host must consider without running the module. Kinds alone leave function signatures and runtime effects unresolved. Check the actual host interface before wiring a module, and retain the engine limitation if compilation cannot support its features.
Before handing over the report
- Retain original inputs and the explicit settings.
- Check unmatched, unmapped and unavailable records.
- Download complete records when the table is truncated.
- Verify the receiving workflow uses the same root, range, coordinates or host contract.
